Is the Universe a Simulation? 2016 Isaac Asimov Memorial Debate.

Since Time does not exist (yes that is true), the Hypothesis of what we consider to be our life being a Simulation, is possible.

What strikes me is that events occur in life and can repeat, giving one a chance to handle the event differently.

Timelines are predefined. When your timeline ends, you leave the simulation. An American female was in the Eaton Centre (Toronto) food court. Suddenly she felt ill and went outside. As soon as she left, a guy with a gun entered the food court and went to the spot where she had been sitting and started shooting people. Had she not left, she would have been shot dead.

About a month later, after returning back to the US, this same woman went to see the latest Batman Movie. As the movie started, a guy with a gun entered the theatre and started shooting people. She was shot dead. This is fact.

Click on this line to view our prior post about Timelines with News Report proof.

This also fits into the hypothesis that Timelines are predefined – ie programed into the simulation where we think we exist.

Is the Universe a Simulation? 2016 Isaac Asimov Memorial Debate. Great debate to watch and listen to.

Upgrade to Windows 10 stalled at 99%

I tried to Upgrade a desktop to Windows 10 from Windows 7. It continued until it hit 99% complete and  stayed there. Rebooted and tried again and got the same result.

Checked on the internet and a Microsoft site suggested to uninstall all your Security software – Antivirus and Firewall as these may be preventing the completion.

Another non-Microsoft site suggested to disable Windows 7 updates (in control panel). I did that but it seems that the upgrade would never have gotten to 99%, if the Windows 7 Updates were the problem. I suspect that it was the Security Software was conflicting with the Windows 10 security software.

So I disabled Windows 7 updates. I uninstalled the firewall. I uninstalled the Antivirus. Restarted the Windows 10 upgrade. It worked.

There is also apparently a way to do the upgrade with a Windows 10 disk – via an ISO file download. I did not try that because if you mess up and end up doing a “clean install”, you may not get a “free” upgrade.

As for security, Windows 10 installs it’s own security software. I will check into how good it is and will probably install my own selected software.

Note, before you do the upgrade make sure that you have a backup or an image backup of your Windows 7 in case things go very wrong with the Windows 10 Upgrade. I used a free software program called System GoBack Free from Easeus. Click on this link to visit their web page.

Note that the free Upgrade to Windows 10 offer expires on July 29 2016. Click on this link to visit Microsoft’s website for more details about the Windows 10 Upgrade.

Hope this helps.

NOTE: I will shortly post about improving the Privacy of the Windows 10 install.

KBT Growing Together

The video gets off to a slow start. You must watch it till the very end. If you have ever owned a Dog or had one share a part your life, you will appreciate what this video is saying.

This video is in fact an ad, for Krungthai Bank. The video show how a young woman was inspired to become a veterinarian. The video also shows that yes, Banks can have a “Heart”.

Simple story line. Good acting. An ending which rips at your heart. This is not just an ad or commercial. This video is a work of art. Simple and amazing at the same time.

Balmuda Toaster $414.60 US via Amazon.com. Yes they have stock.

The Balmuda Toaster is made in Japan.Years back the Japanese learned to be innovative. At one time Radios and Televisions were produced in the USA. The Japanese created better, more functional and easier to use products. Today, you will not find a USA made Television in any America home.

The Balumda Toaster is another example of Japanese innovation. There is a three month waiting list at Japanese retailers, who sell this item. Why? Because it is likely the best Toaster available.

The Balmuda Toaster uses both Steam and Low heat, which does not dry out the item being toasted. Then at the very end the heat is raised to crispen the outer surface.

In Japan they do not sell the pop-up variety of Toasters. Their Toasters lay flat and have a door and trays. That makes more sense since it makes it easier to clean.

By using Steam while toasting an item on low heat the item comes out smelling and tasting like it just came out of Bakers oven.

I was surprised (ok maybe not) that one could acquire one via Amazon.com. Amazon is the best thing that ever happened to retail. Great product variety. Great prices. A trusted retailer. The Balmuda Toaster is being sold by ORIDURU from JAPAN via amazon.com. Shipping is apparently free. ORIDURU from JAPAN has a 100% positive rating from past purchasers.

The price is not cheap. But then this apparently sells for 22,900 YEN which is a huge amount for a Toaster, even in Japan. Yet their production is sold out. In Japan, one would have to wait 3 month to get one.

So the price at Amazon.com is $414.60 US for the Black coloured model,  as of today (subject to change without notice by Amazon). Yes they have stock. My suggestion would be to grab one, your morning toasted Bagel or Croissant will taste like you just brought it home fresh from a Bake Shop.

Another great Motorcycle on display at Back Alley Cruisers Woodbridge Car Meet July 11 2016.

Here’s another photo a great bike which was on display at the Back Alley Cruisers Woodbridge Car Meet July 11 2016.

Photo of a Motorcycle on display at the "Back Alley Cruisers Woodbridge" Car Meet on July 11 2016. Photo Credit Vincent Banial

Last year the Nikon D7000 was driving me nuts with the output photos. I disliked them. They looked soft.

This years, all of a sudden it’s working. The Woodbridge photos look fine. And the wide Tamron Zoom which I used to shoot these is an OK lens, but not hyper sharp. By the time my meetings were over and I got to the car meet, the sun was going down. The pics have to be High ISO shots (haven’t checked – duh). I’m shocked. This is what I expect from any DSLR, and last year I was not getting anywhere near this out of the D7000. Wish that I could have afforded the Nikon D5.

Really nice Indian Motorcycle in Woodbridge on July 11 2016

I had something to do in Woodbridge, so I figured that I would drop by the Back Alley Cruisers Woodbridge Car Meet.

Last year, I went and shot the opening day for the 2015 season. This years could not make it.

I shot some of the cars. There are always a few Bikers who bring down some amazing machines. I checked the bikes out and started taking pics. Someone approached me with their hand extended.

It blew my mind, as he knew my name. He mentioned my shooting at La Paloma. It’s been years since I dropped by La Paloma. That was back when I was trading equities and used to hang out on the Ferrari Chat board.

Photo of a classic Indian Motorcycle in Woodbridge Ontario. Photo Credict Vincent Banial

I had been down to La Paolma shooting Ferraris and Lambos, when I spotted two Motorcycles, parked side by side. One was an Indian and the other a Harley. It was getting dark and I remember loving the way the bikes looked. They had a glow. So I started taking photos.

Next thing I know the owners yell to me, asking what I’m doing. They were ready to leave. So I asked them if I could takes shots of them on the Motorcycles. I normally do not shoot people – model releases etc. They agreed. I snagged a few shots. A couple pics turned out really nice. The early evening and their headlights. Overhead lights hit the edges of their machines. It all combined to create an atmosphere in the photos.

I posted them on the old CLiK CLiK Vic zenfolio website. They liked the pics and asked for a larger size to enlarge it, and put it up in a repair shop.

This was years ago. One those guys was in Woodbridge tonight. He was the guy who came up to me. I was standing there trying figure out how it was that he knew me. I remember that evening at La Paloma. That Harley and Indian looked great. I’ll have to dig up the pics and post them on this site.

Anyhow, the fellow brought a classic Indian Motorcycle to Woodbridge tonight. His girlfriend was riding a Triumph. Nice folks.

So I shot the Classic Indian and did a quick conversion using the internet PC. I will probably do the car pics on the PC dedicated to Photoshop – maybe on the weekend.

Photo of a classic Indian Motorcycle in Woodbridge Ontario. Photo Credict Vincent Banial

I brought the Nikon D7000 with me to Woodbridge. Yes, the one which had been giving me soft pics. I had tried some new setting. These two pics look fine.

I now wonder if the issue might be the Raw Converter. I downloaded Adobe DNG coverter to convert the NIkon NEF files to DNG. I did not use Photoshop for these (it’s on a different PC). I used Zoner Photo Studio to take care of Levels and Curves and sharpening. I did not do any noise reduction. On the Photoshop PC I use a Topaz Plugin for noise reduction. Noise is not an issue with these.

Things turned out great.  I’m glad that I decided to drop by the Car Meet…More Photos later this month.

Beaches Jazz Festival coming to Woodbine Park – July 16 & 17 2016

The Beaches Jazz Festival is a Toronto Tradition. Many have grown up with it – literally. 2016 will be the 28th rendition of the Beaches Jazz Festival.

Where?

At Woodbine Park – east end of Toronto by the Lake. Don’t drive. Take the Red Rockets to Woodbine Subway Station and a bus will take you down to the lake and Woodbine Park.

The Main Stage at Woodbine park has always had really good sound. It’s almost like bowl, as there is a hill behind the stage area. Great sound system.

The centre audience area has Food vendors all around. There is a 2nd stage , which they started a few years back.

Cost?

No Charge – it’s Free. A really great way to spend an afternoon with your lover or your family. For some reason the weather has always bee good the weekend of of the Jazz Fest at Woodbine. We’ll see next weekend.

When the Sunspot Cycle peaks, so could the stock market based on the Dow30 index

This is one way to possibly forecast how the US Stock Market (Dow 30 Index) could be doing. Check a Historical DOW30 Index chart to see when the Peaks occurred. Then check the Sunspot Cycle chart below.

Photo Gallery of “The Sheepdogs” concert at the Festival of Friends 2011

Since I found out that I can setup Portfolios on this site, I gave it shot.

I have uploaded a large gallery of Vincent Banial’s photos of “The Sheepdogs” performing at the Festival of Friends back in 2011. That concert was immediately after The Sheepdogs broke out into the mainstream via being on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine.

The Festival of Friends had record crowds that night. I heard numbers of about 70,000 fans. On the bill were The Sheepdogs and also City and Colour. Because of the huge number of people at that concert I left during City and Colour‘s set. There were cars parked on the main road all the way up to the QEW (or is it called Hwy 403 by Ancaster). I’m so glad that I left early. It must have been mayhem when over 70,000 would have left all together that night.

The concert was great. The Festival of Friends is an amazing Festival. Wish that someone could copy it in Toronto. Well worth the drive to Ancaster every year. Free entry and cheap parking fee. Normally there is lots of parking. The night The Sheepdogs played in 2011 there was no parking. The lot was jammed. the roads were jammed. I did not see any parking tickets on the vehicles parked outside the FoF grounds, so even the Police were cool. Was a fun day and evening back i.n 2011.

You can view the photos from the Main Menu at the top of the Home page. The last Menu item is called Vincent Banial Photography Portfolio. Click on that to get you there.

Ok, to make it easier, just click on the large thumbnail photo below to take you to The Sheepdogs photo gallery. Once in the Gallery just click on the square Thumbnail photos to view the enlarged photos.

New Twist – I can have Portfolio’s on this site!

I setup a separate website called Vincent Banial Photography on WordPress. Basically it was to replace our closed Zenfolio site, which had housed all of Vincent Banial’s Photo Galleries.

I found that I could also apply the same method to this site. It is far from intuitive and was also disabled on this site theme. So I tried it.

On the Home page of this site are the black Menu Bars along the top. OUr photos are being trasfered into the “Concert Photos” menu item. Try it, some pics have already been moved.

Guess what –  it worked.

Check it out please…

At the party they had some great band playing, one of which was Diemonds. The stage was tiny, light were dim but they sounded great. It was an up close and personal concert with maybe 100 plus people in the room, with the bar at the other end.

Eric Alper, an Executive at eOne, invited us to the party. Thanks again Eric. I still have no idea how you heard about me and Uniquely Toronto.

I had a set of photos of Diemonds performing at the eOne party posted on ccvic.zenfolio.com which is closed. Even Google sent me an email asking what was happening with all the 404 results, because their spiders were not finding anything on the our old zenfolio site.

I have the Flickr site up. There are things that I would change if I could, but it is a really fast site and there are tons of things which Flickr provides which are super.

I’ve posted the Diemonds photos into an album on our Flickr site. Just click on the photo above to get there.

Love this band. To give you a taste of Diemonds I’ve embedded a video of their song DIEMONDS – GET THE F&$K OUTTA HERE

Working on a couple of new sites

When I closed our CLiK CLiK Vic site at ccvic.zenfolio.com our library of photos went offline.

That in-turn affected some posts on this site. For example, the text of a post would come from WordPress but the photo would come from the Zenfolio site. That sped up load times for visitors.

I have setup two sites. One on Flickr and one on WordPress. Each host has it’s benefits. In the past I for some reason did not like Flickr. Having setup a quick site, I’m now impressed. It is no Zenfolio, but is impressive in it’s own right. First impression is that it is very fast.

The WordPress test site has been a battle to setup a structure that I want.

The watermark on older photos is still the ccvic.zenfoilio.com one. Will have to put all the pics thru Photoshop and remove that watermark layer and add a new one.

Both of the new sites use my name. It is something that I dislike doing. For example I think that calling this site “Uniquely Toronto” is far better than naming it Vincent Banial (or a variation with my name).

The Flickr site is called Vincent Banial. I know, it’s not very creative.

The WordPress site has more photos on it, but it is still under construction. Some things I like about it, other things not so much. The Flickr site is “faster” and looks better.

This also explains the quiet time on this site, with fewer new posts.
