CNE Bandshell Concerts 2019

The CNE is just around the corner in August. Lots to do there. In the evenings there are great Concerts held at the CNE Bandshell. The following is a list performers in 2019.  All Programming Subject to Change. Always confirm with the CNE when purchasing your tickets.

Sat Aug 17: Woodstock Tribute Weekend
A Little Piece of My Heart – Janis Joplin Tribute – starts at around 2:30 pm
Green River Revival – a CCR Tribute band – 3:30pm
Everyday People – Tribute to Sly and the Family Stone – 4:30pm
The Last Waltz – a tribute to the Band – 7:30pm

Abraxas – tribute to Carlos Santana – 2:30pm
Mars Hotel – a tribute to The Grateful Dead – 3:30pm
Mad Dogs and the Englishman – tribute to Joe Cocker and Leon Russell – 4:30pm

Mon Aug 19:
– in the evening The Standstills
will open at 7:30pm
– then Rival Sons will hit the Bandshell stage. They have toured with the Stones and GnR

That name stayed until 1912 when the Toronto Industrial Exhibition was officially renamed the Canadian National Exhibition.

I was down at the CNE grounds earlier today to get our Media Pass. Final touches were being done. Tomorrow The EX opens for another historic season.Music has always been a theme at the CNE. Along with the Bandshell Stage, you can catch more great bands and musicians at the Midway Stage.

Platinum Blonde to rock the CNE Bandshell stage on Fri Aug 22

On Fri Aug 22, the CNE Bandshell will host Platinum Blonde, one of Canada’s hottest bands of the 1980s.. You’ll get to hear ‘Crying Over You” and Standing in the Dark” and many other favorites, performed live.

Dwayne Gretzky will be the opening act that evening.

Yes,  Life is a Highway so mark your calendars for the evening of Saturday Aug 30th. That’s when Canadian Rocker Tom Cochrane hits the stage at the CNE Bandshell.

Every year the Canadian National Exhibition features great musical talents on assorted stages around the CNE grounds. The CNE Bandshell stage gives fans an opportunity to get up close and more personal, while they  see and hear their favorite Bands and Musicians.

Tom Cochrane was born in Lynn Lake, Manitoba. After a number of hit songs and a Juno Award, his name and music are known around the globe. You can read a good Bio on his iTunes page.

The CNE is set to open for another season of fun, games and concerts.  Last year we posted a listing of Bandshell concerts which was really well received, so here we go again.

CNE Bandshell Concert dates. All shows listed will start at 7:30pm:

Aug 15  Fri   Down With Webster. Outasight will be the opening act.

Aug 16  Sat   The Mavericks.

Aug 17  Sun  Kailah Kher.

Aug 19  Tue   Christopher Cross. Ash & Bloom will open.

Aug 20  Wed   The Mighty Diamonds. Jay Douglas and Paoblo Paul will open.

Aug 21  Thurs   Jose Feliciano

Aug 22  Fri   Platinum Blonde. with Dwayne Gretzky opening.

Aug 23  Sat   Gord Bamford. Tebey will open.

Aug 24  Sun   The Orchestra – made up of former members of Electric Light Orchestra. Francesco Yates to open.

Aug 26  Tue   These Kids Wear Crowns. Eleven Past One will be te middle act. Opening the night will be PRTY H3RO

Aug 27  Wed   April Wine with Bleeker Ridge opening.

Aug 28  Thurs  Hanson. Opening act will be The Seasons

Aug 29  Fri   The Hicks. Kira Isabella and Abrams Brothers will open.

Aug 30 Sat   Tom Cochrane. Autumns Cannon is the opening act.

Aug 31 Sun Rising Star Talent Competition Finals. Starts at 7pm

On Aug 28 Big Wreck rolled into Toronto to play at the CNE Bandshell. During show setup I was amazed at the number of different guitars, that were being checked. Behind the Drummer’s pod, along the whole rear of the stage were racks of guitars. Continue reading

Destroyer played at the CNE Midway Stage on Aug 24 2013. This stage is setup much like a huge outdoor bar. The Beer Garden has lots of tables to get together with friends and enjoy some great music. Continue reading

Sunday evening Dragonette took to the stage at the CNE Bandshell. So called “electronic” bands have caught on in a big way. For me it’s still unusual to not to see a guitar player or even a bass player on the stage. Continue reading

USS is short for Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker. The band is made up of two guys. Ashley Buchholz is their main vocalist and guitarist. Jason Parsons handles the turntable, computer beat, background vocals and banter with the audience. At the CNE Bandshell concert there was also someone banging on Drums. Continue reading

Do you remember the following songs playing on the radio in the late 70s and early 80s: I Want To Know What Love Is, Hot Blooded, Juke Box Hero, Feels Like The First Time, Urgent and Cold as Ice. There were more songs, sixteen top 30 hits. The band was Foreigner. The voice singing those hits, was none other than Lou Gramm. Continue reading

Marshall Dane recently performed in Toronto, where the photos in this post were taken. I mention that show because he was unable to walk four days before that gig. He was undergoing Physio Therapy. That did not stop him from showing up and putting on a great show, full of energy. Continue reading
