The world’s most exclusive automotive brands in the world have made Auto Exotica, presented by Castrol, one of the most popular attractions at the Canadian International AutoShow.

Pfaff Motors

1996 McLaren F1 GTR
Making its debut at a Canadian auto show, this car is a piece of motorsports history. It is the racing version of the McLaren F1 road car, which was for more than 20 years the world’s fastest production car and the first street car with a full carbon fibre chassis. Powered by a spectacular BMW V12, a shade more than 100 McLaren F1s were made. The most recent McLaren F1 sold at auction was a road car that fetched more than $13 million, making this the most expensive car at the 2016 AutoShow. The F1 GTR won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995, and the car coming to Toronto placed third in the endurance race in 1995.

Maserati

Ghibli S Q4
The exterior of the Maserati Ghibli S Q4 was envisioned to offer a unique marriage of elegance and sportscar verve, drawing on the best Maserati design tradition. The starting point for its sleek silhouette is the distinctive front end, defined by the prominent Maserati grille with concave vertical fillets. Powered by a 3.0L V6 that pumps out 404 horsepower, this sleek sports sedan is sure to turn heads.

Quattroporte S Q4
An automobile of extreme beauty, the Maserati Quattroporte S Q4 is an all-wheel drive beauty that possesses sleek and dynamic lines. The marque’s distinctive radiator grill, prominently positioned between two distinctive headlamps, is topped by the long, carbon fiber engine hood with its aggressive central air intake and two side air vents, derived from those used on the race-track prepared GranTurismo MC Trofeo.

Pagani Huayra
Nicknamed “Ella”, the bright blue Pagani Huayra boasts a 730-horsepower hand-built AMG twin turbo V12, but also has the most exquisite custom luggage you will ever see. Porsche 911
This classic Porsche is a Canadian auto show premier of a vehicle restored by Singer Vehicle Design. The Singer brand is a celebration of Porsche’s genius and each restoration begins with a customer’s car and repatriates the 911 chassis of the early ‘90’s with the most beautiful Ferdinand “Butzi” Porsche coachwork from 1964. The goal is to preserve a moment in time for the owner and capture a snapshot of the air-cooled period of the Porsche 911. The final restoration, a work of pure craftsmanship, takes more than 4,000 hours to complete.

Tesla

Model S
Tesla’s advanced electric powertrain delivers exhilarating performance. Unlike a gasoline internal combustion engine with hundreds of moving parts, Tesla electric motors have only one moving piece: the rotor. As a result, Model S acceleration is instantaneous, silent and smooth. Step on the accelerator and in as little as 3.0 seconds Model S is traveling 100 km per hour, without hesitation, and without a drop of gasoline. Model S is an evolution in automobile engineering.

Ferrari

2016 Ferrari California T
The California T, while a masterful modernization of the 2008 California also retains every essence of the legendary Ferrari DNA. The new turbocharged Ferrari V8 engine, a result of painstaking craft and cutting edge innovation is now back at the heart of our latest piece of artistry. 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS
The Dino 246 GT was an evolution of the Dino 206 GT, with a larger V6 engine and a wheelbase lengthened by 60 mm. With the sales of the Dino 246 GT stable, Ferrari looked to increase its popularity still further by introducing an open version. The 246 GTS made its debut at the 1972 Geneva Motor Show and reactions were immediately very positive. The styling retained the individual, attractive lines of the 264 GT, with the added advantage of a practical targa top for open-air driving.

What will you do if having the TV dinner meaning to be stared at by 6 eyes on your food and 3 drooling furry kids watching you…

Aaah~ The guilt! Is never bigger when this happens…

…(believe me, sometimes play hide and seek when having their favourite food is the best way to get away with it…

My lovely furry kids, they just don’t understand why can’t they have the fried crispy pork chop and braised chicken drum sticks…

Sometimes I kind of miss my TV dinner, those good old days when I get to eat, watch TV and NOT feeling guilty about it…XD

Cars & Stars. From the Movie Screen to the AutoShow

Cars & Stars at the 2016 Canadian International Autoshow

We’ve seen them in movies and on television, and now will have the chance to see them in real life at the 2016 Canadian International AutoShow.

The Cars & Stars exhibit at the AutoShow will feature a stable of vehicles made famous by celebrity owners or simply by their standout appearances on TV, on film or across pop culture.

Fans of the Food Network’s Diners, Drive Ins & Dives will no doubt recognize celebrity chef host Guy Fieri, and are also likely aware that he is a serious car collector. The AutoShow is excited to showcase his yellow 1969 Chevrolet Corvette, one of the newest additions to his personal fleet. Not only will this car be at the AutoShow, but it will be near a coffee bar where you can enjoy some of Fieri’s Single Cup Coffee.

In some movies, the cars can be just as memorable as the actors on screen. Like ‘Eleanor,’ the memorable 1971 Mustang Mach 1 Sportsroof — dressed up to look like a 1973 Mustang — that was tearing up the streets in the original Gone in 60 Seconds film from 1974.

Two cars from the garage of Canadian electronic musician deadmau5 will be on hand, including his infamous “Purracan” — a Lamborghini Huracan overlaid with a Nyan Cat theme by Sekanskin — and a McLaren P1.

The final weekend of the AutoShow will also feature the unveiling of a surprise car skin by the Mississauga-based Sekanskin.

The social media sensation #Selfie car — a flashy Lamborghini popularized through the automotive social networking site Madwhips — will also be on hand at Cars & Stars courtesy of the Blacklist Rally. Blacklist is a 2,000-kilometre, five-day rally through 45 cities across two countries for 75 teams of high performance sports cars. The winner is crowned King and/or Queen of the BlackList.

Renowned automobile auction house Barrett-Jackson, which has a full roster of cars and trucks that have appeared on screen up for sale, will be featuring two cars in Cars & Stars, marking the opening of its new auction house in Connecticut and about two weeks removed from its biggest auction of the year, held in Scottsdale, Ariz., at the end of January.

Cars & Stars can be found on the 700 level in the South Building of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Zika update – WHO announces a Public Health Emergency of International Concern

WHO announces a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.

The International Health Regulation Emergency Committee agreed that a causal link between this cluster and Zika virus disease is strongly suspected.

1 February 2016 — WHO announced today that the recent cluster of neurological disorders and neonatal malformations reported in the Americas region constitutes a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. This comes after the International Health Regulation Emergency Committee agreed that a causal link between this cluster and Zika virus disease is strongly suspected. It constitutes an “extraordinary event” and a public health threat to other parts of the world.

The following Zika Virus factsheet is courtesy of the World Health Organization (WHO) and it can be found at http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/zika/en/

Zika virus

Fact sheet
Updated January 2016

Key facts

  • Zika virus disease is caused by a virus transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes.
  • People with Zika virus disease usually have a mild fever, skin rash (exanthema) and conjunctivitis. These symptoms normally last for 2-7 days.
  • There is no specific treatment or vaccine currently available.
  • The best form of prevention is protection against mosquito bites.
  • The virus is known to circulate in Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific.

Introduction

Zika virus is an emerging mosquito-borne virus that was first identified in Uganda in 1947 in rhesus monkeys through a monitoring network of sylvatic yellow fever. It was subsequently identified in humans in 1952 in Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania. Outbreaks of Zika virus disease have been recorded in Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific.

  • Genre: Flavivirus
  • Vector: Aedes mosquitoes (which usually bite during the morning and late afternoon/evening hours)
  • Reservoir: Unknown

Signs and Symptoms

The incubation period (the time from exposure to symptoms) of Zika virus disease is not clear, but is likely to be a few days. The symptoms are similar to other arbovirus infections such as dengue, and include fever, skin rashes, conjunctivitis, muscle and joint pain, malaise, and headache. These symptoms are usually mild and last for 2-7 days.

During large outbreaks in French Polynesia and Brazil in 2013 and 2015 respectively, national health authorities reported potential neurological and auto-immune complications of Zika virus disease. Recently in Brazil, local health authorities have observed an increase in Zika virus infections in the general public as well as an increase in babies born with microcephaly in northeast Brazil. Agencies investigating the Zika outbreaks are finding an increasing body of evidence about the link between Zika virus and microcephaly. However, more investigation is needed before we understand the relationship between microcephaly in babies and the Zika virus. Other potential causes are also being investigated.

Transmission

Zika virus is transmitted to people through the bite of an infected mosquito from the Aedes genus, mainly Aedes aegypti in tropical regions. This is the same mosquito that transmits dengue, chikungunya and yellow fever.

Zika virus disease outbreaks were reported for the first time from the Pacific in 2007 and 2013 (Yap and French Polynesia, respectively), and in 2015 from the Americas (Brazil and Colombia) and Africa (Cape Verde). In addition, more than 13 countries in the Americas have reported sporadic Zika virus infections indicating rapid geographic expansion of Zika virus.

Diagnosis

Zika virus is diagnosed through PCR (polymerase chain reaction) and virus isolation from blood samples. Diagnosis by serology can be difficult as the virus can cross-react with other flaviviruses such as dengue, West Nile and yellow fever.

Prevention

Mosquitoes and their breeding sites pose a significant risk factor for Zika virus infection. Prevention and control relies on reducing mosquitoes through source reduction (removal and modification of breeding sites) and reducing contact between mosquitoes and people.

This can be done by using insect repellent; wearing clothes (preferably light-coloured) that cover as much of the body as possible; using physical barriers such as screens, closed doors and windows; and sleeping under mosquito nets. It is also important to empty, clean or cover containers that can hold water such as buckets, flower pots or tyres, so that places where mosquitoes can breed are removed.

Special attention and help should be given to those who may not be able to protect themselves adequately, such as young children, the sick or elderly.

During outbreaks, health authorities may advise that spraying of insecticides be carried out. Insecticides recommended by the WHO Pesticide Evaluation Scheme may also be used as larvicides to treat relatively large water containers.

Travellers should take the basic precautions described above to protect themselves from mosquito bites.

Treatment

Zika virus disease is usually relatively mild and requires no specific treatment. People sick with Zika virus should get plenty of rest, drink enough fluids, and treat pain and fever with common medicines. If symptoms worsen, they should seek medical care and advice. There is currently no vaccine available.

WHO response

WHO is supporting countries to control Zika virus disease through:

  • Define and prioritize research into Zika virus disease by convening experts and partners.
  • Enhance surveillance of Zika virus and potential complications.

US Navy sent a Destroyer near disputed islands in the South China Sea

China lays claims to pretty much all of the South China Sea. The Chinese Ambassador to the USA stated, that sending the US Navy Destroyer USS Curtis Wilbur to violate Chinese Law was a very serious provocation, politically and militarily.

Why upset America’s apparent Chinese Friends?

Why do this when the Stock Markets have been in turmoil since the start of 2016?

Watch your Sell Stops carefully. It’s is this kind childish pinching of someone which could end up causing someone to get a black eye. A military skirmish between the USA and China, could tank World Stock Markets in my honest opinion.

DeLorean Motor Company is back

Low Volume Production of DeLorean Cars

For nearly five decades, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not distinguished between a company producing millions of cars and a small business making a few custom cars. NHTSA’s one-size-fits-all approach meant that these small companies were subject to the same regulations and paperwork burdens as the large automakers that mass-produce vehicles.

In December 2015, the language from the “Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Act” (H.R. 2675) – which creates a reasonable regulatory structure allowing small companies to produce a limited number of completed replica motor vehicles that resemble the appearance of cars produced 25 years ago or more. – was inserted to the federal highway bill (H.R. 22) and signed into law.

The new law provides common-sense regulatory relief for small businesses that would otherwise be treated as if they were producing millions of cars. The companies are required to register with NHTSA and EPA, and file annual production reports. The replica vehicles will be subject to equipment standards, recalls and remedies.

The vehicles must meet current Clean Air Act standards for the model year in which they are produced. The new law allows the low volume vehicle manufacturer to meet the standards by installing an engine and emissions equipment produced by another automaker (GM, Ford, etc.) for a similar EPA-certified vehicle configuration or a crate engine that has been granted a California Air Resources Board (CARB) Executive Order (EO). This reasonable regulatory reform will also spur innovation, including advances in alternative-fuel and green vehicle technologies.

In anticipation of this legislation, DeLorean Motor Company has been working for some time to identify a supplier for engines and other parts that must be reproduced to facilitate this production for 2017. A number of hurdles exist before production can begin, and we’re still early on in this process of determining the feasibility of moving forward.

Click on this line to sign up to the DeLorean Motor Company Mailing List. That way you will keep informed on this new exciting Exotic Car as production begins “again” on DeLoreans.

We would like to take a moment now, to welcome the DeLorean Motor Company “Back from the Future”. We wish you much success…
