Rather sad day today. I found out that the 2014 Gumball 3000 Rally will not stop over in Toronto.

The 2014 Gumball 3000 Rally itinerary is as follows: Starts in Miami, then Atlanta and New York. Then they fly all the vehicles to Europe and continue the rally  in Edinburgh, then London, Barcelona and finish in Ibiza. Viewing the 2013 videos of what transpired in European cities (see prior video posts by clicking on the Gumball 3000 Rally tab at the top of this page, below the banner) when the Gumballers arrived, Toronto’s 2012 reception (or lack thereof) paled in comparison. Most people in Toronto did not even know that they were in Yorkville. The day that they left Toronto, there were maybe 2 of 3  dozen Torontonians there to see them off. In European cities, people turned out by the tens of thousands.

I will never understand why someone did not think of putting the Gumballers on Bloor Street, like they do for the Yorkville Exotic Car Show. The Gumballers had some amazing Super Exotics not seen in these parts and all were incredibly wrapped. Sadly, no red carpet for them either.

We close off Toronto streets for insignificant local street festivals. The Gumball 3000 Rally is followed by millions of people and by the media around the Globe. Another missed opportunity to promote Toronto, and Ontario and Canada.

So the next chance for a Toronto visit, by the Gumball 3000 Rally, looks to be in 2016. A long wait…
